Benefits of Meditation and Mindfulness

"Meditation is a mental training that gives us access to our resources like mental clarity, creativity, compassion, and empathy. And it takes training, but not a huge amount ... In fact, we know if somebody puts in 5 or 10 minutes a day, ... we’re changing the habitual neural pathways that leave us anxious and reactive and finding pathways that let us access the more recently evolved part of our brains."

-Tara Brach, Ph.D, psychologist, world leader in meditation speaking to Psychology Today on the benefits of meditation

“The practice of mindfulness can bring many benefits to your emotional and physical health, as well as to the relationships in your life. Mindfulness is not something that you have to ‘get’ or acquire. It is already within you—a deep internal resource available and patiently waiting to be released and used in the service of learning, growing, and healing.”

-Jack Kornfield, Ph.D, psychologist, world leader in meditation

  • Why does New York Mindfulness exist?
New York Mindfulness (NYM) is a collective of MMTCP Certified Mindfulness Meditation teachers who see a need in the larger New York Metropolitan Area for meditation teachers who can offer classes for all levels and abilities. We come from diverse backgrounds and offer a variety of specializations. NYM is not a religious, philosophical or spiritual organization. NYM is a platform that makes our teachers visible and accessible to both individuals and organizations.
  • What is MMTCP and why work with an MMTCP certified teacher?
The Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP) is a two-year training led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. The program includes in-depth study, peer and mentor evaluation, and practicum experience, as well as trauma-informed mindfulness and 6 months of DEIA training. To receive certification, teachers must demonstrate they can offer these practices in a way that is safe, welcoming and inclusive. For more information, please visit mmtcp.soundstrue.com
  • Does New York Mindfulness have a physical location I can visit?
New York Mindfulness does not have a physical location. Our teachers go to your location or teach online.
  • I'd like to discuss bringing a mindfulness program to my organization. What's the next step?
Simply send us a message from our contact page with your interest, language preference (if any), and questions, and one of our teachers will reach out to you to set up a consultation call. Once a format is agreed upon, the teacher you will be working with will send their liability form and agreement to you. The agreement will be made between you and the teacher directly, without further involvement from New York Mindfulness.
